We are thrilled to say that the incredibly busy Ben Coes was generous enough to pause for a time to contemplate and answer some rather in-depth questions, those whose answers we believe would most interest and benefit Throomers.
Following is our exclusive Q&A with Ben Coes:
YOU’VE OBVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A GREAT DEAL OF SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT, AND WHY?
Writing my first novel was something I was after for a long time. Completing it, finding it a home, and publishing it was a long road but ultimately very rewarding. I’m glad I did it. I also have four amazing kids –they’re pretty high on my list.
DO YOU SET ASIDE “ME-TIME” IN YOUR CALENDAR, AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME TO RELAX?
I go to a lot of Bruins games.
WHAT’S THE MOST MAGICAL PLACE YOU’VE DISCOVERED WHERE YOU CAN GO TO CHILL OUT?
I’m lucky enough to have a house on the beach in Maine. It’s a total refuge from the rest of the world. Little internet or phone service. Great for writing.
WE KNOW BY YOUR EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF VETERANS THAT PHILANTHROPY PLAYS A MEANINGFUL ROLE IN YOUR LIFE. WOULD YOU CARE TO DISCUSS “THRILLERS FOR AMERICA’S BEST”?
Veterans have done one of the most important jobs in our country. If not the most important job. We don’t value them enough. Thriller’s for America’s Best is a program where authors can donate copies of their books to VA hospitals around the country. This is a small way that I can give back to them as a thank you.
WHO IS ON THE GUEST LIST FOR YOUR IDEAL DINNER PARTY, PRESENT OR PAST?
Anyone? I’d say Jeane Kirkpatrick, Julius Caesar, and Winston Churchill.
CAN YOU OFFER ANY WORDS OF WISDOM TO YOUR FELLOW THROOMERS?
If there’s something you want to accomplish, stop talking about it, stop thinking about it, get up early, and do it. That was a very wise sentiment from my wife Shannon before I began POWER DOWN.
