Dan Morphy Q&A

YOU’VE OBVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A GREAT DEAL OF SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE.  WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT, AND WHY?

I think my biggest accomplishment would be the building of what I consider the top team possible to work with and basically make me look good over the past 15 years. I took a long time to find and secure good hard-working people. But … now that they are in place, they are the key to any success I may have had.

LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS SMOOTH.  CAN YOU TALK ABOUT A SETBACK OR TRAGEDY YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED, HOW YOU DEALT WITH IT, AND THE IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON YOU?

Not that it is a single setback but more of an ongoing one. Making time for family/friends and not letting business control every aspect of my life has been the biggest challenge I have had.

DO YOU SET ASIDE “ME-TIME” IN YOUR CALENDAR, AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME TO RELAX?

I try to. I have a log home near State College, Pennsylvania that I like to go to. I still can’t put my phone down, but it is probably the most relaxed mode I can be in at any time.

WHAT’S THE MOST MAGICAL PLACE YOU’VE DISCOVERED WHERE YOU CAN GO TO CHILL OUT?

Cabin.

DOES PHILANTHROPY PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR LIFE, TO WHAT EXTENT AND HOW?

We do some charitable sales of items where we, the consignor, donates the proceeds as well as the premium. That said…we never do enough.

WHO IS ON THE GUEST LIST FOR YOUR IDEAL DINNER PARTY?

My wife Christine, daughter Haley, mom, dad, brother and sister, and their families.

CAN YOU OFFER ANY WORDS OF WISDOM TO YOUR FELLOW THROOMERS?

Attitude! It’s amazing to me how having the right attitude has a profound effect on everything in life. Doesn’t matter if it’s business or personal … having the right attitude at all times is to me a key to success on all levels.
