Isabelle Ringnes Q&A
YOU’VE OBVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A GREAT DEAL OF SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT, AND WHY?
My greatest accomplishment can largely be contributed to luck, because my greatest accomplishment has been being privileged to meet and keep wonderful people in my life. Having been born into a loving and supportive family, meeting friends that enrich my life in every way possible, meeting a future husband that loves me for who I am, and a co-founder who’s wicked intelligence never stops impressing. Every one of the people I have met and been inspired by in life have contributed to or helped support me to accomplish anything else I have done.
LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS SMOOTH.CAN YOU TALK ABOUT A SETBACK OR TRAGEDY YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED, HOW YOU DEALT WITH IT, AND THE IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON YOU?
I had a rough summer a few years ago. Norway encountered a horrible terror attack that I experienced close-up interning as a journalist at the time. It shook the country and left us all in tremendous grief. It was powerful to be part of a collectively shared sadness while simultaneously working as an intern in one of the largest newspapers in Norway. I had very little experience, yet I was tasked to write about the tragic events that had happened. It felt like I was in way in over my head, but they needed all the resources they could get. The experience spiked tremendous respect for the media and the work that journalists do. The fact that my colleges set their personal lives on hold to report to the world to ensure every citizen was informed of the development made a mark on me. The experience inspired me to study media management later.
DO YOU SET ASIDE “ME-TIME” IN YOUR CALENDAR, AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME TO RELAX?
I do not set aside specific me-time, but whenever I feel the need for peace I make time because I know the consequences of not listening to your body. My life is usually quite hectic, but I make sure to travel (also for leisure) and try to get at least one day a week to do other things than work.
WHAT’S THE MOST MAGICAL PLACE YOU’VE DISCOVERED WHERE YOU CAN GO TO CHILL OUT?
I’m a sucker for the sea. Whichever country I’m in, I always try to see the sea if it’s there. In Oslo we have a place called Bygdøy, where you can view the beautiful Oslo Fjord from its best angle very close to the city center. I run there every week to breathe and reflect.
DOES PHILANTHROPY PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR LIFE, TO WHAT EXTENT AND HOW?
I do not think I have ever coined myself as a philanthropist, but I like to think that much of my work is dedicated to creating a better world, by improving equality and diversity in the workplace. I also spend a lot of time coaching and talking to younger girls and boys to help them navigate their careers.
WHO IS ON THE GUEST LIST FOR YOUR IDEAL DINNER PARTY, PRESENT OR PAST?
Well, I am not sure they would come- but Barack and Michelle Obama, Sheryl Sandberg, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Reshma Saujani, Sergei Brin, Tim Cook and Marissa Meyer would definitely be on the A-list.
