Peter Shankman Q&A
YOU’VE OBVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A GREAT DEAL OF SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT, AND WHY?
Professionally, probably selling Help a Reporter Out. From an idea in my head to a multi-million dollar acquisition in three short years.
LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS SMOOTH. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT A SETBACK OR TRAGEDY YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED, HOW YOU DEALT WITH IT, AND THE IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON YOU?
I look at all setbacks as a way to learn. I’m currently dealing with a problem with my left foot, which is a major issue for me, since I’m a runner, and use exercise as way to improve my life. I’m finding other ways to exercise, including biking and swimming. While it’s not perfect, it’s better than not doing anything and falling into bad habits.
DO YOU SET ASIDE “ME-TIME” IN YOUR CALENDAR, AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME TO RELAX?
3:45am to 5:45am is my own personal time. I can work out, focus on me, do what I need to do.
WHAT’S THE MOST MAGICAL PLACE YOU’VE DISCOVERED WHERE YOU CAN GO TO CHILL OUT?
An airplane. Seriously. 40,000 feet with headphones on is heaven to me.
DOES PHILANTHROPY PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR LIFE, TO WHAT EXTENT AND HOW?
Yes. I donate to various charities, including animal rescue organizations and programs that help fund arts education in the public schools. Very important to me to give back.
WHO IS ON THE GUEST LIST FOR YOUR IDEAL DINNER PARTY, PRESENT OR PASSED?
My grandmother, Winston Churchill, Sun Tzu
CAN YOU OFFER ANY WORDS OF WISDOM FOR OUR READERS?
If you don’t like where you are, move. You’re not a tree.
If you can’t change the people around you, change the people around you.
